Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ .

“Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see,

because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.”

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 24:35-48.

The two disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way, and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread.
While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost.
Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts?
Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.”
And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?”
They gave him a piece of baked fish;
he took it and ate it in front of them.
He said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.”
Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures.
And he said to them, “Thus it is written that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.”

Easter Thursday

 EASTER THURSDAY untitled

Thursday in the Octave of Easter

Today’s gospel takes over where yesterday’s gospel ended.

Let us imagine the surprise of Cleopus and the other unnamed disciple on encountering the risen Jesus for a second time. This time it is not with the breaking of the bread, but the encounter of the risen Jesus eating baked fish.
Those now gathered together before the risen Jesus are scared out of their wits thinking that Jesus is a ghost. He simply tells them, «Look at my hands and feet that it is I myself» (Lk 24:39).   Again, Jesus repeats what he said to the two disciples on that road to Emmaus. But this time, besides mentioning Moses and the prophets, Jesus also adds the psalms.
Here Saint Saint Luke relates that Jesus «opened their minds to understand the Scriptures» (Lk 24:45).  Let us pray that the Holy Spirit enlighten us that we also might see Jesus in writings of Moses, in the writings of the prophets and in the psalms.

This day was made by the Lord;
we rejoice and we are glad.
Alleluia!

Commentary of the day

Saint John-Paul II,

Pope

from 1978 to 2005
Enter into hope: “Fear not!”

“He stood in their midst and said to them: ‘Peace be with you'”

More than ever before we need to hear these words of the Risen Christ: “Fear not!” (Mt 28:10). For people today, who never cease being afraid in their inmost selves and not without reason, it is a necessity… It is an equal necessity for all peoples and nations throughout the world. In the conscience of every human being what is needed is that there should be strengthened the certainty that Someone exists who holds the fate of this passing world in his hands, Someone who undoes the keys of death and hell (Rev 1:18), Someone who is the Alpha and Omega of human history (Rev 22:13) whether this be personal or collective; and, above all, the certainty that this Someone is Love, Love made man, Love crucified and risen, Love unceasingly present in our midst! He is Eucharistic Love. He is the unquenchable source of communion. He is the only one we can unhesitatingly believe when he asks us to “Fear not

Saint of the day

St. Marcellinus,

Bishop

(4th century)

SAINT MARCELLINUS
Bishop
(4th century)

St. Marcellinus was born in Africa, of a noble family; accompanied by Vincent and Domninus, he went over into Gaul, and there preached the Gospel, with great success, in the neighborhood of the Alps.

He afterwards settled at Embrun, where he built a chapel in which he passed his nights in prayer, after laboring all the day in the exercise of his sacred calling. By his pious example as well as by his earnest words, he converted many of the heathens among whom he lived.

He was afterwards made bishop of the people whom he had won over to Christ, but the date of his consecration is not positively known. Burning with zeal for the glory of God, he sent Vincent and Domninus to preach the faith in those parts which he could not visit in person.

He died at Embrun about the year 374, and was there interred. St. Gregory of Tours, who speaks of Marcellinus in terms of highest praise, mentions many miracles as happening at his tomb.
